SENIOR MATCH PLAY,
MILLER, GORRELL TOP SUPER SENIORS
Pete Miller will meet Bob Gorrell at 8:30 a.m. Friday for the championship in the super senior (65 & over) division of the Dayton City Senior Match Play golf tournament. Miller made the finals of the tournament, held at Madden Golf Course, with a 1-up win over John Chicarelli Wednesday. Gorrell defeated Jack Schmidt, 3 and 2.The senior (50-59) and mid-senior divisions are down to the quarterfinals. The championships in those divisions will be Saturday….
Senior Match: MELILLO DOESN’T SNOOZE OR LOSE IN SENIOR TOURNEY
Kelly Melillo should try caffeine more often.Melillo sipped a little cola before bedtime and had trouble sleeping, but still won his first-round match Tuesday in the City Men’s Senior Match Play Tournament on the Hawk Course at Kittyhawk Golf Center. Melillo, who turns 73 on July 28, defeated 83-year-old Chuck Temple, 1-up, in 21 holes, in a first-round Super Senior match for 70-plus-year-old competitors.Melillo said he sipped a couple of Coca-Colas on Monday night….
Senior Match: Mooney opens defense of CGA title
Patrick Mooney of Meridian G.C. began defense of his Colorado Golf Association state senior match play championship title by winning his first-round match 3 and 2 on Tuesday over Gary Keogh of Columbine C.C. at Broadlands G.C.Also advancing to the second round was 2000 CGA senior player of the year, John Olive, who defeated Allen Vean 6 and 5 in the opening round.
